Biography

Dr. Paul Winistorfer is dean of the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech. He is the third dean to serve the college, which is marking its 25th anniversary in 2017. The college is home to nearly 1,100 students, 180 faculty, research scientists, and staff, four academic departments, and more than 20 research centers and cooperatives. The college is ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today College Edition for the third consecutive year.

Winistorfer previously served as head of the Department of Sustainable Biomaterials at Virginia Tech (formerly named the Department of Wood Science and Forest Products). He served on the faculty at the University of Tennessee and was the director of the Tennessee Forest Products Center.

He holds a U.S. patent, twice received the American Museum of Science and Energy award for Technological Advancement, and was the Outstanding Teacher of the Year at the University of Tennessee.
